Lawmakers Urge Justice Department to End Federal Death Penalty

Four members of Congress wrote an open letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland to abolish the federal death penalty. Representatives Adriano Espaillat, Ayanna Pressley, Jerrold Nadler and Cori Bush argued that the current administration would be inconsistent if they kept the federal death penalty in place while also declaring a moratorium on executions, which was announced earlier in the summer.
