2022 Bring Your Own CaSE Capital Defense Training
March 29th-31st, 2023
The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), the Arizona Capital Representation Project (ACRP), and Advancing Real Change (ARC), Inc., are pleased to announce the spring Bring Your Own Case (BYOC) training program.
This is an intensive client-centered training designed to provide support, consultation, and technical assistance for capital defense teams. Through a series of plenary sessions, teams will engage with foundational topics, then pair with another team to brainstorm cases in two-hour sessions guided by rotating facilitators. All expert facilitators bring a wealth of knowledge and experience as capital litigators, mitigation specialists, investigators, consulting mental health experts, and more. Participants will leave this training with specific plans of action toward the furtherance of their cases and will have built skills that can be applied to future capital defense work.
2022 Making the Case for Life Seminar
August 24th-26th, 2022
This seminar is designed to help capital defenders, investigators, and mitigation specialists. Participants will hear cutting-edge presentations regarding pretrial investigations, capital jury selection, new perspectives on discovering the story of the client and mitigation evidence. The seminar will be held at the Astor Crowne Plaza, New Orleans, LA for a total of 12.0 General Credits.
2022 ARC Inc. Baltimore Mitigation Training: Dismantling Dehumanization
June 2nd - June 4th, 2022
This training will be held in person at the University of Baltimore School of Law. It will be centered around exploring what it means to dismantle dehumanization, why it’s important both within and beyond mitigation work, and how we can increase intentionality around how to dismantle systemic practices and policies that currently uphold dehumanization within the legal system. Keynote speaker: Craig Haney, Ph.D.
PACDL Joint Annual Conference

Participants who choose the capital case track will hear session on Rule 404 Issues Explained, Motions Practice for the Capital Attorney, Mitigation Storytelling, Updates in Electronic Discovery, Forensics and Hidden Hazards - Prosecutorial Misconduct (Ethics).
